UNISON Dictionary Maintenance
All new UNISON 2.0 gives you the power to automate the task that gives you the biggest headache - maintaining dictionaries. Faster. Easier. More features than ever.
UNISON™ completely automates keeping test and live dictionaries synchronized. Built on proven Boston WorkStation™ technology, UNISON allows users to keep dictionaries maintained without spending hours of costly programming time. Even using popular scripting tools, it may take as much as 30 or more hours of senior level technical expertise to complete on their own.
With UNISON, your dictionary synchronization is fully developed in less than 20 minutes. There are:
No reports to download No data to extract No analyzing No marking No uploading No reviewing
UNISON is designed to automate the task of maintaining dictionaries within the MEDITECH environment. Within 20 minutes the user will have created the sync, and scheduled it to run and create an audit report. Now your syncs can happen accurately without human intervention. UNISON provides an easy to use set- up wizard that allows the user to select what specific data is required from the first dictionary, then walks the user through the process of updating a record into the second dictionary. UNISON develops a reliable sync that will accurately and automatically update the dictionary. The sync may be scheduled to run at any appropriate interval and any exceptions are written to a file for review.
Sherry Mitchell told the Meditech L: "I’ve been using Boston Software Systems' Boston WorkStation for scripting for two and a half years. This product alone has saved us countless hours of keying Live and Test dictionaries for nine facilities. Last spring I wrote a very time consuming and complicated script to sync Scheduling dictionaries. Since its introduction, I have used UNISON to sync a number of dictionaries including MIS User and Preference Cards, and I’m having a blast getting these done. UNISON's support and development group listened to my suggestions and have incorporated them into version 2. I'll be able to do multiple field lookups or change all or part of a field so that I can copy dictionaries from one facility to another and much more in much less time for myself and my co-workers!"
Powerful new UNISON features include:
Data Mapping—Applies logic to an existing value to determine if that value should be changed in the destination that a user is writing the information to, enabling greater flexibility for users in terms of changing the field content (values) they choose to sync. This provides the user with a powerful set of options for altering nearly any data value in any data location based on conditions the user can create. For instance, if all part numbers beginning with a C must now have three zeros added to the end of the number, a user can make the change with the sync.
Targeted Synchronization—Allows users to synchronize as little as one data element, one screen of data, or just certain sections of data. This gives users greater flexibility when updating data. For instance, if they only need to change one value, such as an ID number, across the dictionaries, they can sync for that single value rather than all the information in the dictionary.
Updated and Improved GUI—Incorporates a top-down design and use of color to quickly indicate where the user will most likely be clicking.
Field Mapping—More easily accommodates changes in MEDITECH releases where the location of specific fields change. Users may now read a value from the source dictionary and write it the target dictionary in a different place. The remapping of values can apply to any field on the screen. This includes reoccurring sections of data. As a result, hospitals will not be affected by MEDITECH product version variations.
Meditech charges thousands of dollars to sync dictionaries each time you want it done - and charge an extra premium if you want it done off hours. In addition, they synchronize all dictionaries (with few exceptions) not just ones you need synched. As you know, the problem with Synching all dictionaries at once is that you usually have dictionaries in a “test” environment that are in various stages of setup, testing, or implementation. Because of this you wouldn't want to overwrite everything just to synchronize one Meditech module such as Pharmacy, or B/AR.
Read this case study describing how Guelph General Hospital synced over 70 dictionaries, saving 40% of the time they had planned and realized a dramatic increase in accuracy.
