Under the agreement, Vocollect will use Boston WorkStation™ automation technology to enable AccuNurse® voice-assisted care to seamlessly integrate with MEDITECH and other leading health care platforms. Butler Memorial Hospital, a community hospital located in Butler, Pennsylvania, recently piloted AccuNurse voice-assisted care with its IV nursing team, and is now in the process of fully implementing the technology. The MEDITECH interface, which was developed in conjunction with the pilot project at Butler Memorial Hospital, is now available to other MEDITECH sites.
According to Thomas McGill, MD, VP of quality and safety at Butler Memorial Hospital, “Although we’ve had great success with MEDITECH, we faced some challenges including spending a lot of time documenting patient interactions and not having access to all the data needed at the point of care. In the fall of 2008, we completed a pilot with AccuNurse voice-assisted care and saw significant improvements in the workflow. Documentation time was reduced by as much as 75% and staff required very little time to search for patient information. By implementing AccuNurse, our nurses no longer have to carry or handle the multitude of devices such as pagers, phones, paper charts and computers. They are able to complete all of their charting simply by talking, and retrieve patient information as needed at the point of care. As a result, our MEDITECH system is now much more useful at the point of care, and we’re extending the benefits of AccuNurse to other MEDITECH-enabled areas of the hospital, such as Physical Therapy and Transitional Care.”
