University Hospitals Join Rapidly Expanding Customer Base for Boston Software Systems' Workflow Automation Software

Posted on 6/13/2005

Boston Software Systems™, the leader in workflow automation software and technology to the healthcare market, continues to have tremendous success in working with university hospitals to automate internal processes, such as system conversions, claim submittal and patient registration. UMassMemorial Medical Center, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University and Mt. Auburn Hospital at Harvard Medical School are using Boston WorkStation™ to quickly build processes and automate workflow to meet their technology, business and regulatory needs.

Boston WorkStation technology is already deployed in more than 1,800 hospitals around the world such as HCA-Midwest, Charleston Area Medical Center, Lutheran Health Network, Cambridge Health Alliance, CareGroup at Harvard Medical School, UPMC, Credit Valley Hospital and Tenet Healthcare.

"These university hospital systems chose Boston WorkStation to help them successfully contain costs and reduce resources while improving the flow of information throughout the organization," said Steve Cohen, executive vice president of Boston Software Systems. "To better address the pressures of a dynamic healthcare environment within a university setting, hospitals must examine existing workflows to see where they can automate tasks or develop new processes. Boston WorkStation has been proven in this environment to save time and resources."

"UMassMemorial Medical Center needed to streamline and automate the process of validating patient registration to the correct physician and location before sending any lab results to those physicians. It is important to deliver the results quickly and within HIPAA standards," said Scott McAdams, manager, laboratory information systems, UMassMemorial Medical Center. "We have also increased the efficiency of our patient registration process. By streamlining the process with Boston WorkStation process automation, we save about 60 hours of work each week."

"Lucile Packard Children's is in the process of converting to Cerner's latest product for Admitting, Scheduling, Nursing Documentation, Pharmacy and Physician Order Entry. We also use about every other health information system vendor," said Harriet Nibblin, LPCH application manager, IT, at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. "I have created seven scripts so far for updating our systems with information stored in files. Boston WorkStation is a great tool, which saves a lot of time and effort and enables us to enter information with minimal resources."

"As a result of using Boston WorkStation, Mount Auburn has saved significant lab time and prevented many costly mistakes," said Robert Todd, director of CareGroup IS at Mount Auburn Hospital. "We've not only improved the quality of information that accompanies a patient or specimen to the hospital, we have also been able to realize faster turn-around in billing with fewer corrections. And our lab personnel are using their time to order lab work instead of registering patients. We are pleased with our results and are rolling out Boston WorkStation to at least 14 additional offices."
