Boston Software Systems Announces Boston WorkStation 7.0

Posted on 4/19/2004

Boston Software Systems, the leader in interface scripting technology and workflow automation software to the healthcare market, today announced they will be releasing Boston WorkStation Version 7.0, a major new upgrade on their widely used scripting tool. The version release will coincide with the 2004 MUSE International taking place in Miami Beach, Florida, May 18-21, 2004. The MUSE (Medical Users Software Exchange) organization serves as the user group for hospitals using MEDITECH hospital information systems.

Boston WorkStation Version 7.0 will offer many new features that continue to streamline the interface development process, allowing organizations to automate complex business processes, to easily perform conversions and migrations or create stable interfaces. Among the features of Boston WorkStation Version 7.0 are:

The integration of WebStation into Boston WorkStation, allowing users to easily automate processes that connect to the Internet

The introduction of Event Manager, a new component that will allow users to apply more sophisticated rules to their script based on the information that appears on a screen. They may set up their script to respond to virtually any condition by popping up a query screen, running another script or any other response mechanism
Increased DataStation functionality including archiving, add record and writing to a comma delimited file

Advanced Windows Connection providing even more powerful ways of handling windows applications

Message queuing which allows a user to easily receive standard message formats such as HL7, queue, handling and extract information from them

To simplify the script testing process, Boston WorkStation’s new VBA Tools module is now compiled so that users cannot see its code while they are scripting. When developing, maintaining or running a script in VBA the user may see the live connection within the WorkStation

“We are very pleased with the reception to this new version of Boston WorkStation,” stated Sara McNeil, president of Boston Software Systems. “Our fast-growing customer base of both providers and system and application vendors has specifically influenced the development of these new features. Both healthcare organizations and application vendors rely on Boston WorkStation to improve processes and speed the sharing of information with other departments, facilities or systems. Version 7.0 makes developing the scripts that move this data easier and faster than ever before”.

As part of the introduction of Boston WorkStation 7.0, Boston Software Systems will offer several presentations during MUSE International including a half day “Advanced Scripting: Putting Integration to Work in Your Facility” on Tuesday afternoon, May 18. In this presentation, Boston WorkStation Product Manager, Thom Blackwell will show participants best practices for efficient and effective scripting, how to implement “lights-out quality” interfaces and automation projects, the ins and outs of Conditional Scripting, and using flat, hierarchical (ANSI X.12, HL7, XML), and Microsoft Office file types as data sources.

In addition, Boston WorkStation users will show how they have put this technology to work in their facilities. Presenters will include: George Winterberg, Systems Analyst at St. Anthony's Hospital will describe a solution he scripted: "Running Unattended NPR Reports"; Barry Rudd, IT Application Manager at Satilla Regional Hospital will share his BWS solution: "Speeding Up Employee Enrollment Changes to MEDITECH"; Paul Donoughe, Database Administrator/Developer at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital will give an overview of how he uses BWS throughout his facility with "Scripting: The Under Utilized Solution for Systems Integration and Operational Automation"

Boston WorkStation allows users to easily develop scripts for such projects as system integration, task automation and data migration. It requires no proprietary programming languages, no special hardware or software and there is no need for consultant or vendor involvement. It contains a unique set of scripting tools to successfully access virtually any Windows application.
