Boston Software Systems, the leader in interface scripting software and workflow automation technology to the healthcare market, made available for general release an added component to Boston WorkStation 6.5 that simplifies the parsing of data from a variety of files and messages.
Called “DataStation”, the new component to the scripting software allows the user to quickly parse the specific data required from application files such as Excel®, Word® or Access®; from complex files such as HL7, EDI and XML; from print streams and delimited or fixed length files. DataStation automatically breaks files into records and the records into fields; provides default names of the fields and allows them to be renamed; allows on-the-fly reformatting of the field contents, both in the script and in DataStation's editor; attaches additional variables and notes to each record; and prepares customizable status reports on the file.
“This enhancement is VERY nice. I’ve been using BWS with Excel files for quite a while now, but it’s never been as easy as it is with DataStation. What used to take about 20 lines of code to open the Excel file and identify all the columns is now done is one easy line of code. Nice addition!” commented Ross Stolle, Systems Integrator at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, ND.
“We’ve received a very enthusiastic response from our User Council members who have been using DataStation”, stated Sara McNeil, president of Boston Software Systems. “DataStation allows you to easily reduce over 100 lines of code down to the four or five lines that are needed. That’s a huge savings of time and it eliminates the errors found when writing so much code from scratch”.
