Posted on 6/8/2010
BOSTON –June 8, 2010 – Boston Software Systems™ (www.bostonworkstation.com), the leader in workflow automation technology to the healthcare market, announced today that more than 32 percent of the hospitals on the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks study are direct customers or partner hospitals using the Boston WorkStation™ workflow automation and integration technology. This survey looks at the hospitals’ overall organizational performance. The 10 areas measured, such as adherence to clinical standards and patient safety, are boosted by the use of information technology.
“Even during the economic downturn, the 100 Top Hospitals maintained a profit from operations while raising the bar for clinical quality and patient satisfaction. The insistence of these hospitals’ leaders – their boards, executive teams and medical staffs – on overall excellence makes the difference,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs at Thomson Reuters.
“More than ever, leading hospitals of all sizes, like Bronson Methodist Hospital, Montclair Hospital Medical Center, Rush University Medical Center and Martin Memorial Medical Center, are under pressure to implement specific business and clinical initiatives. Critical to these strategic initiatives is to automate the manual tasks and workflows involved, and keep major strategies on target. They realize that the operational aspects of running a hospital feed directly into patient safety, quality care and the revenue cycle,” said Steve Cohen, executive vice president of Boston Software Systems. “By helping healthcare organizations to reinvent their existing processes, Boston WorkStation saves hospitals weeks of work and thousands of dollars, enabling them to focus on their core competencies. As a result, they are addressing not only technological and tactical needs, but they are achieving strategic business requirements.”
The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks study, released on March 29, 2010, evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, and post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.
