Scripting makes Business Intelligence easier!
I read this really great article this week in Information Week and thought about the consequences of companies that don't start utilizing Business Intelligence (BI) within their enterprise.
BI in its simplest form is using data to effectively predict and alert of certain track able user behavior. As the article refers it is being used in the airline industry to determine which Frequent Flier member to give an upgrade to. Using analytics, BI can determine based on the data what outcome to present to its audience.
In all industries BI is increasingly becoming a way of life. To truly make an effective decisions using BI, the quality and timeliness of data is paramount. A powerful scripting engine can bring your business closer to this reality. A scripting engine can see data that may not be able to be achieved by querying a database. It can track user behavior as well as see data on screens that there is no way to access the database. A scripting engine will allow you take the data acquired via the script and make it available via a web service, messaging or a database. While scripting in its nature doesn't offer the robustness of some of the off the shelf BI tools, it can be used as a supporting tool or engine to give the BI tool the data it
