Day Close Processes
Eastern CT Health Network used to staff the IT department 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The primary focus of the third shift operations was “day close,” which includes reading in and posting external journals, managing patient bills and transmitting insurance claim files from the HIS to a third-party scrubber. Since using Boston WorkStation to automate the workflow surrounding day closings, ECHN has eliminated the third shift operations needed to complete these clerical tasks. “Fifty percent of the operations we automate were completed during the third shift,” said Laban. “Now, we only need two shifts.”
